Sexual Predators

Dear Parents:

I am informing you about the sexual predators who are on MySpace and Crush spot. You should be more careful about what your children are doing on the internet. Make sure your kids aren’t putting graphic pictures on the internet, which can attract sexual predators to them. To be safe, you should never let your child go on a date with someone that they met on the internet, because you never know what those person’s intentions are. Know what sites your kids are on and if they don’t tell you, you can go back to the history. If you don’t have a problem with your child having a MySpace or Facebook, you can put it on “private mode” so that you can feel safer that your child is on these sites. Private mode is a setting that keeps unwanted people from looking at the profile page. You should test out the sites that your kids want to go on before they get on the site. This will help you decide how safe it is and the risks that come with your child being on the sites.

If you are really unsure about your child being on the site, how about you get on the sites and become their “friend”? This can help you know everything they are doing, and ensure your child’s safety. If your child tells you that you’re being unfair, or not trusting them, just say: “I am being a good parent and if you don’t like it you can just get off the site”. If your child does not know a person who they’re going to add as a friend, don’t let them. Make sure they know in the future to decline anyone they don’t know who requests to be their friend

Only let your child on the internet when you are around. This can help you guide them, and show them how to act appropriately while on the internet. It is vital for your children to learn the dangers of the internet, and this means having the proper supervision.

Sincerely,

Christian
